About Holli
My name is Holli Swank and I am thrilled that you've chosen to read my poetry. If you're here, you probably want to know a little more about the person behind the poems, so here we go!
I am a thirty-something mother of three children. We have been blessed with two daughters born in 2000 and 2004, and a son in 2002. I homeschool all of them and help out occasionally with my husband's web design business. We've been married since 1999, and I've been living in Terre Haute, Indiana for just about as long.
I was born and grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana. My life has had its share of ups and downs, joys and sorrows, just like everyone I suppose. I wrote extensively in middle and high school, including poetry, encouraged by teachers and my grandmother. Once we had our first child though, time became scarce and my writing went by the wayside. I could just never seem to find the energy or the right subject when the mood struck me, so I rarely got anything down on paper.
My relationship with God was off and on for many years. I never completely walked away, but I wasn't fully engaged either. I would pray when things got tough or scary, but like many others, when things were good the praying stopped. Church wasn't a part of our life for most of our marriage, and when it was it felt empty and ritualistic.
Finally, in 2008, we found a church home that really spoke to me in HealingPointe Community Church. It was an eye opening experience to finally know what it's supposed to look like to worship. My husband, my youngest brother, and I were baptized in 2008 as well, a milestone in my renewed walk with Christ.
More recently we have become heavily involved in our local International House of Prayer. We do a set each week where I read poetry and my husband leads worship songs in-between them. It has brought me closer to Him in so many ways and even sparked a few of the poems you're reading.
I feel His presence in my life now, and I am getting a glimpse of His plan for me. He has taken something I love to do, transformed it, and made it into a way for me to reach out to others. I pray that you may find comfort, enlightenment, revelation, anything in what I have to say. Thank you for visiting and be blessed always.
